Responsibilities

  • Recognize arrhythmias or cardiac events and immediately notify the appropriate nursing or medical staff.
  • Apply, position, and calibrate telemetry leads and monitoring devices as per standard protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cardiac rhythms, telemetry alarms, and patient status in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist with patient transfers, positioning, and bedside setup to ensure optimal telemetry monitoring.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other clinical team members to interpret telemetry data and contribute to care decisions.
  • Perform daily checks, troubleshooting, and quality-assurance of telemetry equipment and leads.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and unit/organizational policies at all times.
  • Provide patient education related to telemetry monitoring, equipment safety, and mobility while connected to monitors.
  • Participate in unit huddles, report hand-off communications, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in the telemetry workflow.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: ECG monitoring certification or Cardiac Telemetry certification preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience: Prior experience in a telemetry, cardiac care, or acute monitoring environment preferred.
  • Strong competency in reading/recognizing cardiac rhythms and telemetry alarms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to act quickly in response to urgent changes.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills with both clinical staff and patients/families.
  • Comfort working with monitoring technology, alarms, and data entry in an EHR environment.
  • Calm under pressure, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced setting.
